William H. DeGarmo, 92, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2019, in Park Village Southside following a period of declining health.

Bill was born in Lowellville, Ohio on March 18, 1927 to the late Paul Adelbert and Anna Cecelia (Burke) DeGarmo.

He was a 1945 graduate of Canton Lincoln High School where he lettered four years in football as a center and nose guard and was selected for All-City, All-County, and All-Ohio team recognition his senior year.

He served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a proud USW steelworker and owned his own carpet cleaning business for many years.

He was married to the former Jean M. Pentella from August, 1956, until her passing on November 14, 2007.

Bill was an avid reader, especially of Civil War and WWII history. He loved to watch football, swim, fish, and spend time with his grandsons, and he never missed their sporting events. He worked out regularly at the gym or at home until the age of 88.

He is survived by his daughter, Nanette DeGarmo (Jerry) VonAllman of New Philadelphia; his beloved grandsons, Glenn (Sarah Ann) VonAllman of Cuyahoga Falls and Nicholas (Samantha) VonAllman of Columbus; and three great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers and one sister.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services and cremation will take place under the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.

My fondest memory was going fishing on Sippo Lake with Bill and Nan and a couple girls. I think it took all day in the rowboat to catch a bluegill. How awesome that he would spend his day with preteen girls fishing! That says a lot about him. Go in peace??
