Steven Donald Angel, age 46 of Richmond, IN and formerly of New Philadelphia died unexpectedly as a result of a pulmonary embolism, Sunday, December 25, 2016 in Reid Health at Richmond, IN.

A son of Donald and Karen (Maurer) Angel of Strasburg, Steve was born in Union Hospital at Dover on September 7, 1970.

Steve was an accomplished trumpet player for the New Philadelphia High School Marching Quakers and a 1989 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. The summer following graduation, Steve marched with The Cavaliers drum and bugle corps. He entered into the University of Louisville, where he earned his Bachelors of Music Education. Steve began his career as a Band Director at North Harrison High School at Ramsey, IN. and returned to New Philadelphia as the Band Director for a number of years before accepting a position with Greenfield Central High School at Greenfield, IN.

Steve later obtained his Masters of Educational Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University and became the Assistant Principal for Franklin County’s Brookville High School at Indiana and was the current Principal of Northeastern High School at Wayne County, IN.

An avid fan of baseball, Steve loved rooting for the Dodgers and has been traveling to baseball stadiums across the U.S. with his son, Tanner. In addition to his skills as a trumpet player, Steve played the bass guitar and at one time performed with an 80’s cover band in the Indianapolis area. He was a fan of Dave Matthews Band and above all else enjoyed supporting and spending time with his children.

In addition to his parents, Steve is survived by his children, Tori Angel of Speedway, IN and Tanner Angel of Greenfield, IN.; his sister, Stacy (Bill) Schneider of Strasburg and his nephews, Logan and Landon Schneider as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and life-long friends.

Steve was preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

The family will greet guests on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 4-7 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Family and friends will celebrate Steve’s life in the Dover Geib Center on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 10 AM.

September 11th….. Steve was watching the weather channel to see if he could go to South for practice that afternoon. He called me into the band room…..and together we watched the Towers being attacked. A tragedy we shared together. We always talked to each other every September 11th since that day…..I will never forget that day – or you!

Steve was an inspiration to everyone to succeed, especially me. He took our little po-dunk band in cave country from rags to riches in a short 3 years and his passion for teaching music still pushes me to develop myself every day. To this day I still explain to people how our NHHS Band program was more like military school, but not in a bad way. Steve infected all of us with a tenacious spirit for discipline and reward. I still gloat to my wife about my "glory days" and have yet to replace that feeling of being on top of the world when all your hard work finally pays off big time with a state championship. It truly was a time in my life I will never forget and continues to shape me as a strong individual. Thank you Steve. BOX 5!!!

Steve believed in children and how education would help them achieve their goals in life. He would push students and teachers to strive to do their very best. The words that come to mind when I think of Steve are inspired, innovative, and motivating. Steve was with us for a short time, but he has left an eternal legacy through his deeds and beliefs. His candle burned very bright which has lit a path for all of us to continue to follow. Steve, you will always be with us whenever a struggling student finds success or a strong student pushes themselves to do great things. You will always be with us, we thank you Steve and will miss you.

He taught me about life. I will always respect and remember Mr. A for the amazing life he led, his love for Tori and Tanner, and how he cared for his students. He touched so many lives; I know mine was and I'm forever changed from having Mr. A as a teacher and director. I am so sorry that I never got a chance to physically meet this person but I know even I take part of him with me for I have had stories told to me... I am shocked and very saddened to hear about the passing of Steve Angel! He was a wonderful trumpet player/musician/teacher/menror and person! I learned a lot from him, and he was one of the reasons I went into music education. He will be greatly missed by myself and the many many people who had the opportunity to meet him! R.I.P Steve????
