Retha M. Baker, 86, of Dover, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, March 24, 2021 in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover.
Born in Swink, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Leonard S. and Gracie E. (Beene) White and was owner of the former Jaffe’s Shoes at New Philadelphia. Retha, was considered by her family to be a fervent prayer warrior and the matriarch of the family. She attended Dover Christian Missionary Alliance Church at Dover and along with her husband, served as missionaries in both Peru and Ecuador. Retha had many interests in life but her true calling was to lead others to Christ. Her understanding of God’s word drove her passion to teach others the truth. Her children and grandchildren were the benefactors of her faithfulness and prayers.
On September 4, 1952, Retha married Floyd Baker, Jr. and together they shared over 61 years of marriage until his passing in 2013.
Surviving are four daughters, Susan (Jeff) Sergent of New Philadelphia, Sheri (Bill) McDonnell of Mineral City, Stephanie (Rev. Tim) Richter of North Fort Myers, Florida and Staci (Pastor Scott) Snyder of New Philadelphia; five sisters, Vera Males of Oklahoma, Bobbi Hazel of Georgia, Phyllis (Steve) Collins, Ann (Bill) Neuschafer and Pam (Charles) Tartaglione all of Oklahoma; a brother, Ray White of Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren, Keri, David, Mike, Marci, Mark, Melody, Justice, Luke, Haven, Zach, Savanna, Quinn, Wyatt and Oakley; 27 Great Grandchildren and a former exchange student from Australia, that she considered as a daughter, Jennifer Mooney Tuxford.
In addition to her parents and her husband, a son, David Glen Baker; two sisters, Ludy Fry and Betty Bernard and three brothers; Hobert White, Fred White and Charlie White, also precede her in death.
A private visitation and service will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia with her grandson, Wyatt Angel and her two sons-in-law, Pastor Scott Snyder and Rev. Tim Richter officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park at Dover.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all of the nurses and staff at Park Village for their tender loving care that they provided to Retha.

My dear older sister Retha, you certainly will be missed. All the memories us 12 kids shared with Dad and Mom. As for you and me I remember when I worked for you at Mode of Day and people would think I was your daughter. We looked so much alike. What fun days. I love you!! Ann (9th child)
Our love and prayers to the family...we loved the times we shared with Retha. A true prayer warrior and lover of the Lord! Such wisdom and knowledge as well as lots of stories of her life growing up in Oklahoma and tales of their missionary days. See you in Heaven one day!
So sorry to hear of Retha's passing, but rejoice she is finally "home". She was a good friend and a great testimony for our Lord! So glad He allowed our paths to cross many, many years ago. Will always remember her laugh and the years we played softball together! She was a wonderful person and will be missed!
So sorry for your loss she was a special lady and a wonderful neighbor. Have missed her very much since sold the house. Tammy Burrell
Oh my goodness I can hear her laugh, her voice, the joy she always expressed while around a family gathering or the White’s Reunion. I can also remember we would want to hug her neck, and then run! Retha loved us kids (the nieces) and she always wanted to pinch our cheeks. OUCH? I’m so glad we were able to see her at the 2018 reunion in Texas. We will miss her, she shared and taught about God’s love, and you ladies display it well??
Our deepest sympathy to all the family at the loss of dear Retha. The world will miss this saint, but heaven has gained a citizen! Retha walked her journey with her eyes on her Lord and with a smile on her face. We will never forget her kindness and her example of how to navigate this world with a longing for heaven. We are fortunate to have known her a small part of her time here but have no doubt that she is truly home! Blessings to you, her family as you celebrate a life well lived. Be comforted by your precious memories of her. Much love, David & Mary Latsha
