Larry Allen Jones, age 83, of Dover, died Thursday, June 9, 2022, in Cleveland Clinic Mercy Medical Center at Canton following a period of declining health.

Born on May 17, 1939, in Centralia, Illinois, Larry was a son of the late Ralph Jones and Gladys Weaver Parson and was raised from infancy by his aunt and uncle, the late Paul and Virgie Mast.

Larry was a 1957 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and entered into to the United States Army where he was a helicopter mechanic. A 35-year employee of NASA as an Aerospace Technician, Larry worked at the Cleveland Research Center and retired in 1994.

He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover where he served as an usher and was a member of the St. Joe’s Seniors. Additionally, he was a member of the New Philadelphia American Legion and held a longtime affiliation with the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARF), and was the former chairman of the local chapter.

For many years, Larry enjoyed organizing York Elementary Alumni and Class of 1957 reunions as well as NARF activities. He also enjoyed airplanes, fishing, golfing, wood working and feeding and watching the birds and his vast collection of clocks. He had the ability to build or fix just about anything and even built his own home on Leesville Lake.

Larry will be missed by his wife of 57 years, the former Christine Slansky whom he married on May 1, 1965; his children, Brian (Ellen) Jones of North Carolina, and Susan (Warren) Rodgerson of California; two grandsons, Matthew Jones and Mitchel Jones; and a cousin, whom he considers a brother, Robert (Karen) Mast of New Philadelphia. He had a great interest in the lives of his children and grandchildren and loved hearing about all of their adventures.

The family will greet guests on Monday, June 13, 2022, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Jimmy Hatfield on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 11 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover.
