Frau Schonauer’s passion for teaching German was infectious; her energy level and positive attitude created a relaxed environment in her classroom, which made learning far easier. She modeled a simple yet valuable approach to life - love what you do, and share it with others. German class acted as a perfect creative balance to my beloved science courses, and it made me realize how much I enjoyed the study of language. I don’t believe that I would be the same person today were it not for Frau Schonauer’s love for her work and dedication to her students. Thank you, Frau Schonauer, for caring; I hope you know what an impact you have made.

As Julie's aunt and uncle, we've been blessed to have her in our lives from the day she was born. When she was just 3 years old, because of my love of the language,I taught her to count from 1-100 in German, never realizing that it would become her second language in life. As a youngster, she spent many happy hours helping her uncle take care our horses and loving on Mike, our Labrador Retriever. Watching her overcome so many struggles through the years and become such an amazing woman who loved God with all her heart, has been a blessing to everyone who knew her. She has experienced the scripture that says, 'To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.' We take comfort in knowing we will be reunited with Jule again one day.

My niece Julie has always held a special place in my heart. In spite of her life-long medical struggles, she lived life to the fullest, always managed to have a smile on her face and touched all who knew her in many ways. Kind, generous, and bright of spirit is how I will always remember her. It is so sad that her life was cut short just as she was entering retirement and starting a new chapter in life. Love always,

My deepest sympathies to Julie's family for their incredible loss. She will be greatly missed. I will miss our lunches, pet discussions, political rallies and our many wonderful conversations full of laughter and sarcasm. She was a wonderful teacher to my children and most of all a wonderful friend. I'm blessed for having known her.

I was so saddened to learn of Julie's passing! As then-Vice President of the Ohio Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German, I learned a great deal from working with her in her role as President and very much enjoyed becoming acquainted with her. She was a true gift to our profession and she will be greatly missed.

Arlin, Donita, Ken, and family, Julie was such a strong and devout Christian and she lived it every day—such a blessing we found one another through ancestry and learned so much about our Schonauer heritage together. I am so sorry for your great loss. We will all miss her very much. She was quite loved. Thankful we had great fun, so much laughter, and I will cherish every adventure and memory. She loved her family, and I’m glad to be part of it. God bless you all.

Such a wonderful lady who was so passionate about what she did. She was always there to help her students no matter what. I’m thankful I got to have her as my German teacher for 3 years. I’ll never forget the time she bought me a mini recycling bin because she knew I loved anything mini. Praying for her friends and family during this difficult time.
