Joseph I. Tripodi, Jr., age 81, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully at Community Hospice’s Truman House surrounded by family, on Saturday, September 11, 2021, after a year-long health battle following a stroke on September 11, 2020.

Born in Steubenville, Ohio on March 21, 1940, he was a son of the late Joseph Sr. and Mary (Agresta) Tripodi.

Joseph was a 1958 graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School. He had tremendous respect and devotion to his friends and classmates. He continued his formal education at the College of Steubenville completing his undergraduate studies in 1963. Then, his education culminated at Pettit College of Law-The Ohio Northern University in 1967 where he received his Juris Doctor.

Joseph was a well-known and respected attorney in New Philadelphia for 54 years. He was a member of both the Ohio State Bar Association and the Tuscarawas County Bar Association. In 2016, he was recognized by the Who’s Who Directories as a Top Attorney in North America. Joe very much loved his career and worked nearly seven days a week right up to the day he suffered his stroke at 80 years of age.

On July 23, 1970, Joseph married his wife Karen (Hunter) Tripodi who precedes him in death. Joe and Karen shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and experiences together. They also worked alongside one another at his law practice for 15 years, where his wife served as secretary.

Joseph was an avid golfer and he was thrilled when his only grandson Cade took up the sport. Joe loved to read books and magazines especially any having to do with World War II or space and aeronautics. He found much joy in the game of bocce and developed great friendships with his many bocce buddies who all participated in many tournaments together.

Joseph was a devoted, supportive, and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his daughters, Danielle (David) Ryan, Julie Tripodi, both of New Philadelphia, and Debora Jo Tripodi of New York City, NY; grandchildren, Giordana “Jordan” Gasser and her husband Edwin Siwkowski of Warsaw, Poland, Sophia Gasser, Cade Gasser, Bianca Tripodi, and Talia Pershing, all of New Philadelphia; step-grandchildren, Kayla and Morgan Ryan; sisters, JoAnn (Melvin) Gorsich, Dora (John) Foley, both of Steubenville, and Mary Pozzuoli of Smithfield, OH; many nieces and nephews; caregiver, Kathy Cabbage; and devoted secretary, Janice Christmas.

In addition to his parents and wife, Joseph was preceded in death by a grandson Von Louis Gasser, and a brother Louis P. Tripodi.

A memorial gathering will take place in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia, 116 Second St. NE, on Thursday, September 16, 2021, from 4 – 6 PM Pastor Brian Flood will lead a service celebrating Joe’s life at 6 PM in the funeral home’s chapel. I am so sorry for your loss. Joe was an extraordinary man in so many ways. He was very generous with his time and amazing legal knowledge and expertise. He loved practicing law and helping people. I sure will miss all of our spirited discussions about the law, politics, current events, and whatever else came to mind. And I'll miss his sense of humor. He was a great friend, and I will really miss him! But now he and Karen can be happy together again.

Joe was a man to be remembered. He loved his family and he loved to laugh with his friends. He had a caring heart, was always respectful, and was a hard worker. In worked with Joe many times over my 42 years in Real Estate and he always put his clients interests ahead of his own. I know his heart has ached since the love of his life, Karen, passed. We will miss you Joe, thank you for making this world a better place. A Friend Always, Jeff Mathias
