John Edie, age 70, of Mineral City, died Friday, November 8, 2019, while in the care of Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.

John Edie, age 70, of Mineral City, died Friday, November 8, 2019, while in the care of Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
Born at Dennison, Ohio on July 29, 1949, John was a son of the late William B. and Mary E. Burgett Edie.
Following his graduation from the former Midvale High School, John worked for Republic Steel and later for Primary Packaging.
He was a member of First Christian Church at New Philadelphia and enjoyed golfing, watching baseball and boxing. John also loved long drives through the countryside and in his younger years was the former Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 88 of Mineral City. Above all, he loved his family and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Jeanna Tomblin; their three children, William (Kathy) Edie, Sean (Monica) Edie all of Dover; and Shavonne (Casey) McMillan Zoarville; his grandchildren, Jocelyn (Evan) Zimmerman, Ethan Edie, Aiden Edie, Hayden Ball, Theron Edie, Emerson Edie, Allegra McMillan, Violet McMillan, Cecilia McMillan, Shanna O’Meara, Broc Wilson, and Cody Shanklin.
Completing the family are his siblings, Shirley (Bill) Bitticker, Michael (Judy) Edie, and Ginger (Ray) Hoffman, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister Minda Boffo and two brothers, Dean Edie and Jerry Edie.
The family will greet guests on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Pastor Jim Borton will lead a service celebrating John’s life on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. All are invited to join the family for a meal and fellowship in the Social Hall of the First Christian Church at New Philadelphia following services.

I remember when you left California after Grampa Edie passed, something about that day and the look on your face has always stuck in my mind. I will never forget you. We will have to jam when we meet again, two of the greatest bass players in the Edie family. Love you John, peace to all who love you. You are missed.
