Harley Ray Vogel, 83, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with the Lord and to rejoin his wife on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at his home following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Walter Ray and Bernice Edna (Merryman) Vogel, Harley was born February 10, 1937 in his childhood home at New Philadelphia.
Harley graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1955 and was a veteran of the United States Army.
On June 30, 1957, he married the former Alice Rebecca Snyder and the couple shared nearly 63 years of marriage prior to Alice’s passing on September 17, 2019. Harley and Alice dearly enjoyed each other’s company. They were best friends who enjoyed going out for breakfast together, working in their gardens together and enjoying time with their family. Harley and Alice were also longtime members of Calvary Baptist Church at New Philadelphia where they created the Secret Garden following Harley’s retirement.
Harley was a longtime dairy farmer and in his younger years, drove truck for Reese Trucking. He would later retire from Twin City Concrete as a mixer driver.
He was known for being very handy and one who could fix anything. He was a self-taught woodworker who made furniture and toys for his grandchildren. Harley also enjoyed landscaping.
He is survived by his children, Michael R. (Tammy) Vogel of Port Washington, Chris A. (Sherri) Vogel of Stone Creek and Joan (Dave) Albrecht of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Michael R. (Abby Brugman) Vogel II, Anna E. Vogel, Allison R. Vogel, Noah C. (Micana Dahlke) Vogel, Isaac L. Vogel, Mary A. Vogel, D. Colt (Lacey Hensley) Albrecht, Caleb D.
