Donald W. “Tuff” McAfee, 85, of Somerdale, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 in Aultman Hospital following a short illness.

Born in Hopedale, he was the son of the late Harley and Irene (Lillie) McAfee. Tuff was an honorably discharged veteran having served with the United States Army and he had retired from the former Bender & Louden Freight Company where he worked as a truck driver.

His hobbies included hunting and fishing and he was a member of the Tuscarawas County Bassmasters and the Tusky Valley Ruritans. Tuff was one of the founding members that built the Fairfield Township Volunteer Fire Department and served for many years as a volunteer firefighter. He could be found every Wednesday night at Atwood fishing tournaments and also enjoyed farming with his son and grandson. His world revolved around his family and he always had a smile on his face.

Tuff is survived by his wife, Martha Ann (Herron) McAfee, whom he married August 15, 1959, and together shared over 61 years of marriage before his passing. Also surviving are his three children, Jeff (Sherry) McAfee and Scott McAfee of Sandyville and Suzanne Borovitz of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren, Casey (Morgan) Ray, Haelee and Jason Borovitz; Valerie (Jimmy) Lemonte, Heath McAfee, Candys (Justin) Rock and Gary Steele; 15 great grandchildren, Shane, Zeke and Ziva Lemonte, Parker, Piper, Zoey and Chloe Ray, Jasmine and Chelsea Rock, Pierce, Gage and Kaitlyn Steele and Kaitlyn, Kaylee and Kelsey Borovitz; a brother, Melvin (Janice) McAfee; a sister, Grace Dolvin; his brother-in-law, Bill (Lenore) Herron and his sisters-in-law, Monica McAfee, Linda Garber and Jean McAfee.

In addition to his parents, a granddaughter, Megan Borovitz; a son-in-law, Patrick Borovitz; four brothers, Craig, Art, Jim and Dale McAfee and a sister, Bernice Viertel have also preceded him in death.

In keeping with his wishes, Tuff is to be cremated through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and a memorial service will be held at a future date.
