David M. Riker, 79, of New Philadelphia, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 in the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital at Dover.

David M. Riker, 79, of New Philadelphia, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 in the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital at Dover.
Born in Dover on July 17, 1941, Dave was the son of the late Ernest W. and Elizabeth “Betty” (Farkas) Riker of Roswell. He was a 1959 graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School in Dennison. There, he was captain and high scorer of the 1958 undefeated state champion football team.
In 1962, Dave joined the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Cuban blockade, Med Cruise, and Viet Nam from 1965 to 66.
Dave married his lifelong companion, the former Carol S. Wherley, on June 6, 1964. Together, they were blessed with two sons, John C. “Chris” (Patty) Riker and David C. “Clay” (Leslie) Riker.
Dave was a heavy equipment owner and operator and worked locally and in Marietta. He was also a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445, and the Ball & Arrow Primitive Weapons Club.
In addition to his wife and two sons, Dave is survived by his grandchildren, Mitch (Ashley Coburn) Riker, Nicki, John, Megan, and Jaden Riker; great-granddaughter, Ellie Rose Riker; siblings, Betty Huffman, Fred (Linda) Riker, and Karen (Steve) Gloeckner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, and siblings, Ernest and Robert Riker, and Mary Ann Rothacher.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Father Jeff Coning will officiate a service in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m., concluding with military honors rendered by the New Phila VFW Post #1445. The 6-foot rule will be honored and all guests are required to wear a mask to enter the funeral home.

So sorry to hear about the loss of Dave. I am glad I had a chance to talk with him last summer. I will always remember him. He was a big part of my Dads company and his efforts will always be appreciated.
