Nora Evelyn Tolbert, age 97, of New Philadelphia passed away Friday evening, February 23, 2018 at Park Village Health Care following an extended illness.

Born on January 6, 1921 at a home on Jones Alley in Cambridge, Ohio, she was the daughter of Fred Moose and Hazel (McConkey) Moose. She married Abdallah “Dallie” June 18, 1938 and was married 54 years before his passing June 28, 1992. Together they had 3 daughters, twins Barbara Jean Swinderman of Dover and the late Betty Jane Tolbert and Marjorie Ann Nowak of Dover.

She will be sadly missed by her grandson, Kevin (Danielle) Swinderman of Massillon; her granddaughter, Heather (Doug) Glaser from Bolivar; her great-grandchildren, Emily (Lance) Augustine Canton, Ali Carpathios (Will Brison fiance ) of North Canton, Jonathan Carpathios of Massillon, Nathaniel Glaser and Brianna Glaser, both of Bolivar; great-great-grandchildren, Amelia Augustine of Canton and Brodie Brison of North Canton; brother-in-law, Edward Link of Dover; and sister-in-law, Peg Moose of Cambridge. Numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.

In addition to her parents, husband, and daughter, Nora was the last surviving of 8 children preceded in death by her brothers, Russell, Fred “Beanie”, Leroy, Roger; and sisters, Esther Pauline, Bertha, June.

Her faith was nurtured through her membership at the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia for 70 years where she greatly enjoyed the Golden Circle Christian Fellowship. She was very fortunate to have all the extended family of friends.

She attended Cambridge High School until she had to go to work at Union Hills School as a janitor to help support her family. After that she became a housekeeper for a private family. Nora was a devoted wife and mother. A resident on 6th St. for more than 70 years she was a fixture in the neighborhood and made her house a home for family and friends.

Her hobbies she enjoyed included sewing, crafts, cooking wonderful meals, needlepoint, playing cards and traveling to 48 states with her husband and family. In her younger years she liked boating, fishing and bowling.

I am so sorry to hear of Nora's passing. Her mother and my grandfather were siblings. I talked to her about our family history a few times and had hoped to go see her but that wasn't possible. She was always so pleasant and helpful to me and enjoyed talking as do I. I would love to stay in touch with this branch of the family. I can be reached through my email or by contacting me via Facebook. Again I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
