Doral Paul McCartney, 84, of Sherrodsville, died Monday, January 22, 2018 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.

A son of the late Richard Doral and Lorena (Romig) McCartney, Paul was born September 10, 1933 in Monroe Township, Ohio.

Paul graduated from Canton Township High School in 1951. Then at the age of 18, he enlisted with the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, Paul continued his education at The Ohio State University earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1994, he retired from the Timken Company, where he was known as “Mac”, as an Electrical Maintenance Foreman after 30 years of service.

In his younger years, Paul enjoyed serving as a golf caddie with his brother, Lefty. Then during his adult years he became fond of the outdoors and especially hunting. He was known for his joy of working on antique cars, as well as for his willingness to lend a helping hand anytime someone needed a car repaired or electrical work completed. Most of all, Paul cherished his grandchildren and spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda (Dutton) McCartney whom he married on December 27, 1964; his children, Casey McCartney of Mineral City and Amanda (Alan) Yingling of Sharon, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Bethann, Courtnee, Nate and Madison; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Shawn and his siblings, Doris (Ral) Leavens of Washington state, Ruth Ann (Paul) Cicer, Marlene (Steve) Ward and Debbie Johnston all of Canton.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Helen Rennicker; a daughter, Hattie McCartney and two siblings, Eugene “Lefty” McCartney and Caroline “Susie” Suttle.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
